Armor like 'plastic-wrapped'
Hi!
I just bought my Dev the EotN Vanguard set, and it looks like it's made of plastic. I've never had this problem with GW before, and on no other armor set like this.
Now I'm pretty annoyed, playing EN just to get this armor and stuff...
System specs:
Windows XP
Intel Pentum M725 processor (1,6 GHz, 400 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700/64MB
60GB HDD
2x 1GB ram
steps taken so far:
downloaded DirectX 9.0
downloaded new card driver
re-installed GW
thanks in advance!

If you had serious DirectX issues, you probably wouldn't be able to run the game at all. Any modern copy of Windows XP includes the latest (or very nearly latest) version of DirectX 9.0c.
Your Radeon 9700 is pretty outdated, but should work reasonably for Guild Wars. The cause of your issue might be the result of trying to use High detail textures with so little video RAM. I'd personally also try reinstalling video drivers. Its weird that it only occurs with that one armor set though. Are you sure you don't see it occurring anywhere else?

Just to rule it out, go into your GW in-game options under the Graphics tab and untick the "Use best texture filtering" box. If that alleviates your problem, it could be possible that your card is struggling to in it's rendering of the armor due to its lower on-board RAM.

I tried with lower graphic settings, but apart from everything getting obviously rougher, no change. I don't run any other games on this notebook, but it has previously worked perfectly with guildwars and that's the only ever time it occurred...

well from where I'm standing...it looks like your derv just became a boss
seriously though that is strange, it only does it with this set of armor? Might be one of those annoying account based graphical glitches. Like with me male ele arms and legs appear black for me no matter what computer I'm on.
Is the problem still there if you log in on a different comp?

that could be difficult to try... I don't really have too many opportunities to install gw all over other people's computers I might ask my brother back home to check, though
Meanwhile I can really just pretend I'm a boss
------------------------------------
Edit:
I was just thinking... could that be something to do with Texmod? I'm not running GW through Texmod atm, nor do I do that usually, but it's installed on my notebook and that glich kinda looks like when you do the texturing wrong...

Could be texmod, really deos look that way. Although that has no effect unless you acctually run it.
Damged dat file perhaps, tried re-installing? i know its a hassle but its worth a try if nothing else works.

re-installing GW might work, it's just that I don't have the launch CD with me... >.< and I very successfully deleted my full image from my external drive before leaving home

ty. had not thought of that :S
------
re-installed GW and got rid of Texmod. no difference.
The bug must be related to my computer as my brother tried my account on his and it worked perfectly there. also, other people view my armor as being totally normal.
think the GW support could help?

My brainwave would be that your machine graphic ability has an issue with correctly displaying the armor as it should be. I don't think it's anything other than that sorry to say. If everything you have ytried has come to the same ending I doubt you will change it because all the things you have done to try to rectify it are all the things that you would do to rectify it. Some cards just don't do things the way we want. Example I have a 800 XT PE in one of my machines and the picture is really dark. No matter what i do its always dark. I have 2 more machines running next to it and they are all bright and sunny but this particular card just doesn't want to play ball. Sucks but them's the breaks.
At least you got nice armor Mr Boss Derv

You're not running Kuntz's mod that adds the UT kill sounds to GW are you? It's a stand-alone hack, not TexMod, but the latest version enables hi-res graphics for all armours.
Mind you, that shouldn't alter your armor, just everyone else's.
Heh, just a thought.

And it's only in the login screen, or do you also see it in-game the same way?
Have you tried turning post process effects off if they're on?
I'll try to think of some other ideas. Hrm...
